Choice is an integral part of the Roeper Camp experience. To encourage independence and accountability, Activity Camp campers are offered a choice of activities every day. During each Monday’s assembly, campers participate in group challenges and learn about special events that will occur during the week. In the homeroom group, counselors post and discuss the daily schedule each morning. Campers then choose which activities to attend for each of the 6 periods, building their daily camp schedule based on the day’s offerings, making every day unique. Campers are offered the choice of at least 12 activities for each period of the day, including weekly inflatables, with each group having a dedicated time for their group to partake.

Campers mark their selected activity on a board, allowing group counselors to know their location. The counselors at each activity check campers in using their electronic attendance devices, allowing the camp office to know each camper’s location. Campers walk in groups to activities and check in with their group counselors between each activity. Campers of all ages participate in the various activities offered, mixing with and meeting campers from other homeroom groups.

Swimming in the large pool is offered multiple periods each day; the use of the pool is one of the choices campers may choose from. For select periods, the leisure pool is open to activity camp campers who are not comfortable in the larger pool. Campers must pass a swim test to use the deep end and slide in the large pool.

Each homeroom group is comprised of approximately 25-28 similarly aged campers and two head counselors.
